Abstract

Characterized by an actual hydrographic web, the entrerrianas lands presents at the half of the XX century productive patterns exclusively agro-pecuarios. The inundation of april 1959, considered in Argentina a "national disaster" left under water over 20.000 km2 of land. Since Concordia to the delta and during three months, the province seemed to have a hydric cloak over richly productive lands. Amazed by the situation the inhabitants affected by it look for protection on the highlands and on the main cities. The national, province and town government made up a help strategy which counted with the spontaneous solidarity participation of the population. The approximation to written and oral testimonies, representatives of the collective memory allows us to visualize the socio-economic effects produced on the Gualeguaychú Department by the '59 inundation, evaluated at that time, as the biggest on the hydrographic regional history.
