The reduction "Exaltation of the Cross of the Indian Quilmes": a case of ethnic relocation in Pampas at the end of the XVII century

Abstract

We intend to study the transformations made in the breast of the communities of Indian quilmes and acalianes of the Valley Calchaquí­, after their geographical transfer to the space pampeano in 1666 and later establishment in the reduction Exaltation of the Cruz of the Indian Quilmes ". We will analyze the new forms of economic and social organization imposed in the reduction system, as well as in the interethnic relationships established with the Buenos Aires colonial society. Our objective is to know the causes of the abrupt demographic fall in the relocated group and to investigate in the possible answers ethnic -resistance strategies-, generated in front of the subjection situation imposed in the space pampeano.
